There are two different sections of the Limes in Baden-Württemberg. First, the Upper Germanic Limes runs almost vertically from Walldürn to the Rotenbach Valley near Schwäbisch-Gmünd. Walls, ditches and palisades, reinforced by forts and small forts as well as a large number of watchtowers, formed an artificially created land border.
Finally, the Raetian Limes begins in the Rotenbach Valley and continues from Mönchsroth in Bavaria. At the Raetian part of the Limes in Baden-Württemberg, the fortifications were supplemented by a stone wall.
