  • Obertiefenbach village

Obertiefenbach, along with Bettendorf, was mentioned for the first time in the endowment deed of Merenberg in 1163. The protestant church (the Jakobuskirche) was built in the year 1774, although its foundations date back to around 1163. The Limes runs along the edge of the village and forms the border with neighbouring Bettendorf. This idyllic village, with its superbly-restored farmhouses near the Bäderstraße (spa road), is a gateway to walks in the romantic Hasenbachtal valley, and to the Loreley-Aar-Cycleway from St Goarshausen to Hanstätten. At the top of the Weißler Höhe (456 metre) you will find preserved circular walls, which demonstrate evidence of Celtic defences.
